Default A4 guys...

I hate how slow the tranny is. While I am already rolling and hit the gas it starts to accelerate, but in the same gear. Then like 2-3 seconds later it drops a gear and pulls. WHY? Can this be fixed?

sometimes if you dont hit the pedal hard enough it does that and doesnt take off...

try pressing harder maybe? I remember reading that a forum member had something stuck under his accelorator pedal...I dont know, but I know that when I go wot..it feels like wot and jumps a gear instantly

When I first got mine, I had this issue. Turned out the floor mat slid up and bunched up under the accelerator preventing full throttle. Once I flattened the floor mat and pulled it back down, the performance increase from the now free moving accelerator pedal was cominal.

Incorrect tv adjustment could contribute to this.

He has a 95, no TV cable. But your accelerator cable adjustment may be off. When the pedal it to the floor, is the TB fully open?

Engine off, have a helper floor the gas pedal and see if there is any travel left in the TB lever. If there is, the throttle cable is adjusted too loose.

If yours is like my 95 A4 it shifts down and puts me back in the seat very quickly. In fact I won't go WOT until I am out in the passing lane, otherwise I would have somebody's rear bumper for a hood ornament by now.
ps--an ECM tune can improve many perceived problems.

with Pete. With the throttle fully depressed, my tranny guy says they should be tight like a guitar string. Is that accurate Pete??

Normally, yes. The car in question is a 95, therefore no tv cable exists. My advice was incorrect for his car, but applies for the 84-93 models.

Get an ALDL cable, Tuner Cat, and the $EE definition file and use it to change the shift points to suit how you like them. The factory settings are very tame and take alot of pedal to kick it down a gear.
