No insults taken. Yes the ASR is off. No indicator lights on except ASR off. Not sure how to determine if it's actually off or on short of the indicator light.
"Don't worry about it. Just buy some spinner hub caps and they'll think U R phatt"
Hey BigRedWing, I am fat or large (6'5") for that matter but no gimmicks for my lady or any of my cars for that matter
When I first got my Vette I couldn't get the wheels to spin much at all and I have the 6-speed, I just figured it hooked up well. About a month later I realized you had to manually turn the ASR off, I thought it was always off and you had to turn it on if you wanted it. I was cruising around when I realized this, so about an hour later I forgot it was off and while taking a right hand turn I got into it and she almost came around on me . Luckily I caught it. Now it's always off. Oh yeah and the occasional hard straight line launch is a lot more fun now too.
I think that a lot has to do with tires. Are you sure your not spinning and just can't hear it? I'm serious about this question. My car spins like crazy but I can barely here it over the exhaust, until just before it hooks.
I have a 2.59 rear and an auto. I could barely get the tires to turn over when I had Potenzas on it, but now with Kumhos, I can sping them just punching it off a start. Matter of fact I'm haveing a lot of fun, but now I need new tires.
I work with a younger crowd that has SRT's, Mustangs and such. To my embarrassment I realize I can't spin the wheels. You know, lay a patch. The lady has 86K on her. SHE DOES MOVE but she doesn't want to let everybody know it. Probably a blessing but I sure would like to hear her once in a while.
Well I have the same problem! Its a auto and the ASR is off. So I look at it this way, while your burning rubber i'm already gone. See ya! LOL

I wish I had that problem. I have bought a lot of tires in the last few years. The car would be a lot more concistant <(how the heck do you spell that?) at the track. I dont have ASR
Can a C5 turn off the traction control for a smokey effect?
Yes, you can go beyond Competition Mode and turn off active handling and T/C. I did it on my 02 coupe with the Vortec supercharger and promptly got it to do a 180 in the first 50 feet and had a hard time finding my way out of the cloud.

Maybe you need to do some exhaust work so she can talk a little louder and let people know what she is capable of.......
Actually spinning tires is a really poor measure of performance....it simply means inadequate traction.....but I agree spinning tires is sure impressive
My 84 with X ram spins to much.It fistails back and forth but the Toyoyo tires are pretty well gone. I guess the brand of tires makes a difference with wheel spin and mine is a automatic.
Yeah definitely have to see auto or manual, anyone with a car like ours can spin the tires pretty easily. ASR off + foot to the floor = burning rubber. ESPECIALLY if you are going uphill from a stop, thats really good for losing traction. Right now my rear tire tread is low, and in my 95 stock auto im doing everything I can NOT to spin out.
[QUOTE=c4cruiserSome tire compounds will not show a lot of tire smoke with wheelspin (my Bridgestone Potenza's hardly smoke at all but leave stripes) so you may have some wheelspin but you may not be seeing any smoke or noise.[/QUOTE]
I wondered if anyone else had the same effect with the Potenza's.
I can hear and feel the tires spinning, but without any sound of rubber burning or smoke. That is even with ASR turned on. It does make a difference with the surface you are on.
I've heard that at the track you should turn off ASR. I'd think you would be better off not spinning the tires. Anyone?
It's an automatic. Haven't gotten around to trying to light 'em up until I read this thread today. Too much other stuff to learn first.
Hadda go out and run a few experiments.
ASR on......spins some....not much.
ASR on, standin' on da brakes, rev to 2 grand, release brake and flatten the accelerator......about the same amount of spin as above...from a standstill.
Push funny looking button that turns ASR off.
From a standing start...punch it.....WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Thanks for the grin guys!
I'da gotten around to it eventually, but you gave me the shove I needed to get after it today!
