Default Need connection on code reader

Can anyone suggest a good code reader that will not cripple my wallet and were I could get it?

I've seen them at Pep Boys and Auto Zone before but I do not know hoe good those are and do not want to waste my money.

95 6sp I think an OBDI

Any help would be very

OBDI are dirt cheap at that bay place, you can pick up a used unit for less than 50$.

Okay looking thru search I found a good thread. It says the 94 and 95 are OBD1 but has the 16 pin plug. IT says you need a Scan Tool. Can anyone enlighten me on the brand and maybe a model. AND even better a purchase location for this.

you only need a paper clip to read codes, you can probably take one from your workplace.

Go here:

and scroll to the bottom of the page. You should be able to read your codes.

Codereader wise the 1995 is a bit of an orphan but as VetteUSA mentioned you only need a paperclip to get the codes.
I also have a '95 and it took me a while to figure it all out. The 95 has a 16pin (OBD2) plug but is actually OBD1.

I found it a big help to get an extension cable. Makes it so you don't have to stand on your head to get the codes and makes it really easy to get the paperclip in the right holes and saves you a trip to the doctor to get your back straigthened out! I got one over night from the following site. http://obd2cables.com/ Get a # 144201, Cable, J1962M to J1962F, 5ft. It's the one you see pictured on their home page. It's $22.95 and well worth it.

Do a search and you will be able to find a lot on what the codes mean. Reading the Selective Ride Control codes is a bit different . Look up C4cruiser's posts as he has some good ones on getting those codes and clearing them if you need that info.

Thanks all.... Thanks Daddy J. I know about the paperclip but was real reluctant to do that since I do not fit under the dash. I mean at all. I get stuck at the steering wheel with it all the way up.... That extention should do the trick since I can at least touch the plug.

Yep, just a paperclip in pin 4 and 12 and key "on". Displays on the speedometer. Spend the money on a FSM if you don't have one.
