So.. this has happened twice in a row right after washing my car at one of those self wash things.. All I do is spray it down and wipe with my microfiber mit... but I might be getting something too wet..like the battery?
Right when I start it up the "Check Guages" light comes on but all the guages are fine..Could this be indicating an almost dead battery?
it takes about 3 hours to clear by sitting(drying?) and the second time it kind of faded when I rev'd it a little. then it finally went away and it never comes back on until I wash my car again.. ???
I'm also running rich so I wonder if its a wierd oil pressure thats throwing this, or just loose wiring.. I dont know! ahh.. it runs fine though, its just a gas hog...
Do you have any codes from anytime recently? The check gauges light wont set any as far as i know, but its hard to point a finger with nothing to point it at. You could change the battery and see if that does it, but i would think it might be more likely to be a ground connection or negative terminal that may be abit dirty
What reason do you have to believe its running rich?
Rotten egg smell is an indicator that a catalytic converter is going bad...
Also the smell you get from an overcharged or shorted out battery that is 'cooking' inside. If you have a lot of crud on the battery and that crud gets wet it makes a path between the terminals, basically shorting out the battery. It would be rare for 'wet crud' to do any damage, but as they say 'sheet happens'.
If you are running rich it will ruin the catalytic converter. The smell plus if it glow along with decrease in acceleration usually point to a bad/plugged cat.
