When my check engine light comes on my A/C does not work. The fan works no problem as well as the heat but the A/C comp does not activate. It will when the light is off but as soon as the light comes on the A/C stops working.
Any ideas? Has this happened to others or is it a thing that happens when the light comes on? Now bare in mind the light will eventually come on with the a/c on or off. The a/c just does not work when the light is on.
buzz the car by your local autozone and let them pull the codes... check back with us.
Are any of the lights on the climate control flashing? I am wondering if you have a freon "problem." meaning, either the freon is low, or, a sensor is freaking. The PCM on these things sends the AC request, so I wonder if there is a related problem.
Thanks Andy. My computer was down most of the day.
I didn't know Autozone could pull codes. So the A/C unit could actually light up the check engine? It works fine when the light is off. I will stop by AZ on my way home Tues and see what's up. I will update.
Invest in a code reader at Autozone or Napa. They're only 40 dollars or so. I had that problem, it was a code 26, relay. Fixed the AC and the code stopped.
I went to AutoZone like Andy suggested. They had an OBDII reader. Well I was , It's making half way there. Right plug wrong reader. I would honestly like to meet the rocket scientist who thought up the OBDII plug in an OBDI car. That makes as much sense of having **** on a bull. I guess I have to wait until I get the plug extension.
