I regularily race with them on the track. Stock even an STI doesn't come close to my LT1. They just don't corner very well. Acceleration is good with the WRX and with the turbo upgrade kit they go from 227HP to 270 so watch out for those quick little buggers.
STI's are as fast acceleration wise as mentioned before but lose out once again in the first corner. Corvettes rock on track even stock. I do like the Subarus though in their element which is off track and in bad weather as well as the old cottage dirt road.
Keep your racing to the track. I drive like an ol grandpa on the street. On track, well, I growl a lot

Actually, the turbo set-up on the STis is quite mild and built for low-lag/quick response. They will need a much larger turbo with all the supporting mods (fuel/intercooler/etc) to get into the 10s. Not cheap, but makes for a sleeper because, as you mentioned, they look like normal sedans...

Heck, if I was in a WRX, I'd try to mess with him, just to see what he could do!!

No really, I'm an all stock 'vert. Grammy's Monte Carlo could waste me in the quarter. I'm more aggresive in my daily driver than in the 'Vette. I'm a cruiser not a bruiser.

You gotta be good to keep THEM out of trouble. Check out this story...

WRX clocked @ 142mph, headed home trying to beat curfew.

I've raced a few of those WRX's in the 1/4 and they ran in the 15's. I think they couldnt shift or something though. I dont think they were meant for the drag strip anyway.

Great pix & huge turbo. I didn't see a inlet screen to protect small pets and children

Check this out-- Teen clocked going 142 mph :

Default I beg to differ

I owned a 2003 WRX for 2 years ans when I bought my Vette('88 w/ L98) I sold it to my buddy. The first day the sun was shinning bright, we had a duel. I thought the WRX would still beat me out. Well even with the 4+3 tranny, I bet him in a 1/4 tester that we know is exactly a 1/4 mile and I beat him by a car and a half. The Vette was absolutly stock and the WRX had an exahust package as well as a chip to boost it to 245 hp which is the same as the Vette. The one and only reason I won was gears. The 3.30 gearing did him in. A WRX STi will pull away on my Vette by inches even thought it has 330 HP. The turning on them SUCKS in comparison to my Z51 baby. I don't know of any American cars in 1988 that had better handles even over seas for the $29,000 tag. Fish on!

A stock Subaru is no problem at all, many of them are modded to death though.

Hmm. The dumpsters around here are WAY better looking and a probably more aerodynamic than a turdbrick WRX. On top of that, the STI looks just silly with that retarded wing stuck to something that looks like grannies econobox.

Regular wrx is L98 territory. About $1100 in mods will put them in the low to mid 13s, but, one has to really launch hard. The automatic ones are slow, though, on the 2.0 motor.

STI is even better.

My little wrx wagon makes my c5 and past c4 feel like a heavy pig in the handling category... Both vettes had better grip, but the WRX has all-season tires, and I had good tires on both Vettes. I did add fatter swaybars and better springs.

btw, its not a turbo upgrade to go from 227 to 270.. It's a simple adjustment of programming (And its more like 250-260) Add a down pipe (About $400) and the basic WRX is around 280hp. A turbo upgrade puts them at 330-380hp. Much past that is really begging to blow up the transmission. Also, anyone that drifts a WRX is an idiot, they'll destroy the car doing it. Drifting + AWD = overheating and breaking things in the driveline.

the STI has a very strong transmission, though. To get an STI in the 10s would require a fatter turbo, bettger fuel system, headers, and some engine work.

This car is NOT A drag racer, and not built for straight line acceleration. The top end isn't that great, it's really only quick with a launch, or about 20-70mph. It's built for rally racing. The c4 would literally be torn to pieces if it tried to race the WRX on its home court.

Overall, its a really fun to car to own for having 4 seats, though the Subary Legacy GT is a better choice, mho. And the Impreza is rock solid reliable.

ps, i did some checking. The WRX STI runs about 13.1, 13.2 in magazine tests. If an LT1 beats it, its because the WRX either didn't launch, or wasn't trying very hard. They are in LS1 territory.

Just wondering how fast those little ricers really are against a stock LT 1 ?
Prior to ending up with my C2 Vette, my first “Sports Car” was a Sunbeam Alpine. With dual carbs, I thought the little 4 cylinder engine could hold its own against a VW bug.

Little did I know he had (best guess) shoe horned a Corvair pancake 6 into it by the sounds it made as it disappeared in front of me! …I almost got out of my Alpine to see why it had stopped! 😂😂😂

Some of those rice rockets have also managed to cram two pounds into a one pound sack. 😉
