C4 4+3 Transmission...how does it work?
Does it automatically shift into the overdrive gear?
How does it do that? Or decide when to? Thanks.
ratio of one gear was essentially the same as the other. Does it always go into OD when you
drive? So if it does that, you can just go from say...2nd to fourth and be done with all your
shifting? Sounds cool to me...
1st:....... 2.88
2nd:....... 1.91
2nd/OD:....... 1.30
3rd:....... 1.34
3rd/OD:....... 0.90
4th:....... 1.00
4th/OD:....... 0.68
As you can see, the OD gears are very close to the next numerically higher gear. The car's computer program will always shift into an OD gear if the required conditions are met. You can turn the program off and have complete control over it yourself though.
You do drive it just like a manual transmission, because it is one. It has a clutch pedal and everything. ;) I love mine, and it has been super reliable. The OD has one really cool feature. If you are cruising along in one of the OD gears, and stomp on the gas, the car will shift out of the OD gear automatically back into the straight gear and accelerate hard. :D Kind of like an automatic.
