I am in the middle of replacing the fuel injectors and valve cover gaskets and intake gaskets on my 86 1/2 . Didnt expect it to be this big of a PITA . I had a nightmare getting the bottom plenum runner bolts out...not to mention the egr bolts UNDER the egr valve that I still havent figured out. Is the a special tool for these hex heads on a flexible shaft?
I use a hex box-end wrench to get those EGR Valve bolts; it take a tap or two due to the star washers under the bolt heads.
Try a long allen wrench to start some of the more difficult lower runner bolts. Also be sure you have the injector wire harnes out of the way.
Be sure to start the LH rear runner bolt before positioning the cold start injector. Then be very careful to have the cold start injector well seated to avoid bending the mounting flange.
Hand start well all upper runner bolts before applying a wrench as it's easy to strip them otherwise.
Be careful installing the brittle solid vac lines.
You can try a crows foot on the EGR bolts. Sometimes a flexible 1/4" extension (from osh-craftsman) comes in handy for messing with the lower runner bolts. Torque them down with a normal extension.
The flexible shaft is also great for getting to the distributor cap bolts).
