The one in the dash(I call it the R2D2) is the sensor for the climate control if equipped with the electronic unit.
The other I believe is for the dashboard lights(brighter or dimmer depending on the amount of light).

MOJO is correct. My latest discovery was the SVC display on my Bose. (Sound volume control) it monitors noise levels and adjusts the sound higher and/or lower as you stop and cruise. Neat little option. Goldcylon

I thought the SVC was related to speed not noise level.

I think it's a little of both. As your speed increases, so does the noise.

OK, from page 3-15 of the owners manual

SCV=Speed-Compensated-Volume

Your audio system makes up for road noise by getting louder as you drive faster. The control behind the upper **** has three SCV positions. H has a higher maximum volume and gets louder faster than L. Use H when you are driving with the roof panel off,the convertible top down or the windows open. If you don't want to use SCV,turn the control to OFF.
