Hi everyone,
I have discovered that the front precats on my bone stock 90 are shot, and need replacement. I am thinking of going to a true dual system, but I am not sure were to get one. Mid America sells a dual system, but it has no cat, and is only 2-1/4 inches, I would like to be 2-1/2. I found a place on line that sells inline cats, and I am thinking of buying them and just cutting out a section of the duals to install them. I guess that I would weld the front and clamp the rear. If anyone has any other ideas (other than headers), I am all ears. I see many people who say there cars have true duals, where did you get them? Is there an aftermarket supplier that makes a true dual system w/ cats?
I changed my stock setup from 2 precats and a rear cat to true dual.....no cats.....flowmasters......Then I went to Meinike here and they bent the pipe for me into true dual put that on with muffler eliminators loud and everything but it was clamped and didnt fit good so I took it off and now its sitting on the garage floor. Im lookn for new piping and actually make it fit. Other than it pretty much rattling, falling loose, and not fitting....sound was fine but I like it loud and the drone wasnt too bad for me...Im a teenager though and I dont mind it as much as a older person.

I think no mater how you cut it there will be some fab. work needed for your 90. I believe the R.Tech stuff is only made for Long Tubes not stock manifolds. I have the R.Tech. set-up (bullet cats, 'X' pipe etc.) and the pipes are stainless mandrill bent and ,well made but needed some LT hangers welded and some massaging. The LT-1 modded would probably be the best bang for the buck as I have seen used ones sell very inexpensively.
If you go the mid-america route, consider spending an extra $75 for a magnaflow true-x x-pipe. It is easily adapted to the mid america set up by tweaking the center distance.
Incase you wanted to see midamerica's setup installed:
Thanks for the pic's Mikey, I think I am going to go with the pipes that Corvette Central sells, as it comes w/ a crossover. I wanted to have a true dual system made, so I went to a couple of muffler shops near were I live (Elkton, MD). They both flatly refused, saying it was illegal. I told them I wanted the system to have cats, but they said they could not remove the orginal cat w/o replacing it. They would not even put a new down pipe w/o the precats, even though they are EPA legal. Oh well, screw them, I will just do it myself, and save the money.
Mikey, were the Mid America pipes hard to install? What about hangers?

Thanks, everyone. This forum is the best.

It's a violation of Fedral law for a shop to remove a working cat and replace it with non-stock cats or just pipe. Even if the cats were bad but still on the car, they could only replace it with a stock replacement. The fine is over $10K if a shop gets caught removing cats and not replacing them.
What you might have been able to do is to take the car to the shop without the exhaust in place (cut everything off below the manifords and have them install components. You would have to state that the original cats were not on the car when you got it or that you would state that the cats had been physically damaged and you removed them.
You may want to consider an LT1 exhaust. It flows weel and you can get one for free most of the time. It is a big improvement over the L98 system, and it will fit in just fine with only minor mods.
Were you satisfied with the Corvette Central dual system? Was the pipe as thick as the stock pipe? What is the inside diameter? Did you have to do any extra bending to get the pipes to fit and line up with the rear hanger?
Just a thought, try browns auto service on route 40, or auto style in delaware on old baltimore pike(the rhino linings place) they may be able to help you.....

Very happy
My installer said they were very solid and well built (fit was good). He was really surprised. He did have to work a little to get it to fit right.
Oh yeah, the u-shaped clamps were to small, so he had to spread them w/ a hydraulic tool. SOP improvement too boot.
