Default Limo Tint

I got Limo Tint Tuesday. Legal here in N.C. is 35. I already had 35 but its too light and it was starting to peel. Does anyone know the chance of me being pulled and what can happen? I talked to one "cop" forum member but I didnt want to pester him for all the details. I dont wanna go to jail or something. Just wondering if anyone else has illegal tint done and gotten in trouble or something. Also got the tint across teh very top of the windshield. Thats not illegal though. Just the two front windows are and the back ones legal also....

Oh yea. I forgot to ask. I heard that if I do get a ticket or pulled they can give me a 500 dollar ticket and possibly go to jail. For tint and I roll down my windows as soon as I see his lights go off.

first of all its a little late now you have it done already. in LA you can get pilled over for it as a primary infraction some states you have to be pulled over for something else ie speeding and then they write tint ticket. my brother in law is a trooper and dark tint is just one more reason to pull you over. ask my son about rolling the window down, that does not work and he got a safe driving award for it. I told him not to limo tint but kids seem to know better

Based on what I have read this morning, it will not pass state inspection if the tint is darker than legal and there is an additional $10 charge for the inspection. I haven't really found anything about fines though.

Just go to google and request "window tint laws" and it will hook you up. As far as fines, I think its like $200-500 fine. Who cares, what is $500 when you own a Vette with limo tinted windows. You got the money right? The side windows are the killer-watch out bro

too late. But nevertheless, I guess we've all gone through this stage--it's something you'll have to experience now. Think of it as a rite of passage. Sports cars draw enough attention, add a young driver and they'll know you by name. I tinted my car down in my youth and after receiving my "requested" attention from cops in MD/DE/DC/VA, enough fines/hassles to pay for a couple tint jobs, I happily removed it. I smile as I type because my Vette isn't tinted. I'm so gun shy now, tint laws keep changing, etc...-- my beast draws enough attention, don't want the hassle anymore. Keep us posted...

Tickets are a nuisance, but I believe here in California they are still just "fix-it" tickets. Remove the tint and get it signed off. I could be wrong though, I haven't had a ticket of any kind in years.

My biggest concern in this day and age would be liability. If say, you accidentally pulled out in front of someone and caused an accident. A good lawyer (oxymoron) could file an additional civil suit against you for intentionally obscuring your own vision and therefore not only would you be responsible for the accident, but could also be found criminally negligent and subject to additional penalties.

Believe me, if someone in one of these hugely illegal lifted trucks were to collide with myself or anyone in my family, resulting in injury or death, I would go after the driver, the manufacturer, the installer, and anyone else who ignores the bumper height laws and "off road use only" statements.

It's unfortunate, but it's the society we have created. My friend was in an accident (broadsided by a big-rig that ran a red light) just 2 weeks ago. He was trapped for an hour, airlifted 17 miles to a trauma center, X-Rayed, CAT Scanned, and RELEASED the same night. He's lucky to be alive and yet has no broken bones, no major injuries, and only a couple of stitches from some glass cuts. But.... he has already amassed nearly $100,000.00 in bills. Sure everything should be paid by the other driver, (in a settlement that will take months), but if it weren't a large trucking company with strong insurance, he would be personally bankrupt, and his credit ruined.

OK, I'm a little off track here, but these are just my (paranoid) thoughts...

Jim

Well, as for saftey I would roll down my windows. Its just I saw alot of cars here with it and I liked the look of it. I want to black my car out completly. Black lights are legal. So black lights, a black car, black rims, black exaust pipes, and BLACK tint....... Nice ride....IMO. Thanks for the replies. I have talked to some people here and they claim they have never been pulled. I guess its just if the cop wants to be an *** or if I do something wrong. I usually ride with my windows down regardless of season. It feels so cramped in the vette with it all closed up. I just hope I dont get pulled. The 35% just looked stupid and I lol have personal reasons for the tint. Anyway thanks for the responses. I just hope I blend in with the crowd, dont screw around and just hope for the best. I asked vader about his because he has limo tint and he said he only got pulled once and rolled down his windows and never got cited for it. So.... One thing though I talked to the tiner place and he showed me all the workers cars and they had 5%, Limo and one guy had "Double Limo" I didnt know that was made.

It took me a while to save up for the tint. Im not some rich snot nosed bratt who gets whatever he wants. My parents only gave me my car because once I graduate I pay insurance finish up the car payment, gas ect. They said they cover me as long as I get my education but I have to grow up some time and I want to be on my own now and see for myself the world. Plus it sux having your parents tell you what you can/cant do.

Oh one more thing I would like to add. A kid I went to school with last year has a Dodge Neon and has custom tint on it. Its 35% tint with custom silver flames on all windows. I thought for sure he would be pulled by now but nope. You cant see his face and its SUPER hard to see out thru the windows when your inside. That literally is a hazard to the road.... Hes also classified as a "RICER"

I live in Arkansas. All 3 of our vehicles, Vette included, have 5% limo tint on them.. My wife has a 2005 tahoe and I have a 2002 Silverado as daily drivers. I have used limo tint for the last 15 years on all my vehicles and have never been pulled over in that time period for anything. There are 3 policemen that live in my neighborhood (one is 2 doors down). 1 city cop, 1 county cop and 1 state trooper. The state trooper lives 2 doors down. He told me he never pulls a car over because of tint and only writes warning tickets for tint if that car has been pulled over for something else or has been involved in a accident. Your state of course may vary. He said he is not too wild about having to approach dark tinted vehicles at night but it really doesn't bother him that much because he can usually still see within the vehicle when the spotlight from his patrol car shines through the back window. He said most drivers are pretty blind when he walks up to the vehicle by the bright lights his patrol car and flashlight is emitting.

The last vehicle I had...I had installed 15% on the door windows and 5% on the back window. I never got into trouble with it, but was unable to find a shop that would give me a inspection sticker. Last tint I got installed was on my truck which was 35%. I really don't care if someone else can see me or now (I grew out of that). I like to not go through the trouble of finding someone whom will install a inspection sticker.

If you have a buddy or know someone that installs inspections stickers, I say get whatever you want.

My step daughter was stopped in the City of Wilmington driving my Camaro with the limo tint and got a ticket for it. To avoid paying a fine (of which I know not the amount), I had to remove the tint. So I did. I then took it to a DMV inspector who verified I had removed it and dismissed the ticket.

Sucks though.

I can't tell you what could happen in N.C. but my oldest son lives in Pa. and that state does not allow any tint other that what the vehicle comes from the factory with.

When he visited me here in Canada a couple years ago he wanted to get his windows tinted. (can't get it done in Pa. as it's illegal)

He had the windows tinted at the place where I get my windows tinted.

After he returned home he got stopped by the LEO's (just for the tint),
received a fine and had to remove the tint. Even though he was not breaking any traffic laws at the time they pulled him over for the tint because that is an equipment or vehicle violation.

I guess that would be the worst that could happen to you. Get a fine and have to remove the tint.

Good Luck and keep your head down.

Gary

I wouldn't worry about jail time.

Let me make sure I have this straight. You are spending money on window tint when you have unrepaired body damage?

I PERSONALLY paid for the limo tint. Yes, true the front end does have a gash in it and we have already talked to the bodyshop man. He works on boats/fiberglass and were still trying to set up an appointment with him. I am going to have the whole hood repainted and possibly some vents that I am hoping to purchase from "Dan" here on the forum. My dad is paying for the hood part. He let me spend MY money how I choose to because I saved it up and he got me a system and the hood repairing for christmas.

Well first off 35% is not limo tint, thats the legal % on the side windows here in Tx. Limo is 5% and can only be put on the rear and eyebrow. It's not all that hard to find a shady inspection place to sticker it but it's impossible to see out at night through it and really dangerous but it looks damn good.
