Well it looks like the head gasket is gone 89000 miles. I'm going to pull it apart this weekend and send the heads out to be checked. I no i need new seals and maybe they have to be surfaced. Anything else i should have done to them whill there off and how much about will it cost? Thanks Tbone

Get a Factory Service manual and learn as much about your as you can. Get some tools and get to work. Only way to NOT get screwed is do the work yourself, buy good parts, and take care of your car. Its old. Just like people, it needs repairs. We get old our hip breaks our teeth fall out. The car gets old. Gaskets break, oil leaks....
If you are doing the job yourself, $250 should get it done. If you are paying $65 per hr for labor, I would expect a $1000 bill. This assumes heads are not cracked and are servicable with a cutting.

Sounds about right depending on the cost of head jobs over there.
It would be more helpful to you if you gave the year model of your car too.

The last time I had my heads done the tab was $185.00 That included a 3 angle valve job, new seals and a truing cut. Add in gaskets, cleaners sealants oil, filter and coolant $250 may be a little on the low side. Beates the stealership by a mile however.
I would recommend a pressure test and a slight clean up cut on the heads. This assumes that the heads are flat enough to reuse. If they are warped badly, the machinest will have to deck them what ever is nescessary. I would also use a 7733-pt2 head gasket. Use the fel-pro seals as well. Allow the machinest to inspect the valve guides while he is in there. If worn, a bronze liner is installed to fix it. Small block chevy's have always been rough on valve guides. Don't be suprised if you have a few sloppy ones.
