I was thinking of chroming my 1989 wheels on my car and was wondering what the pros and cons might be. If any one has done this or has suggestions I'd appreciate any help. Thanks Paul
P.S. I hope everyone here has a
Happy and Healthy New Year.

From everything I've read, the '89 is the most difficult and the last supplier I checked (Corvette Mike) doesn't warranty the '89 wheel.
Finding a Plater - anywhere in So. Cal if you happen to live here - is allmost impossible with most closed down by enviromental regs. The last one I knew of (and did a really crappy job on my exhaust 5 or 6 years ago), burned down about 6 months ago and there's no way anyone is going to let it get rebuilt.
A strip and a polish is probably a better bet, though they will have to be maintained. You can always polish and re-clear but you want the stuff you need a Respirator to apply. Rattle can clears will probably chip and peel.
Thanks for the info. This is what i thought also but wasn't sure. I think I will go with an updated wheel. I like the looks better and it will be more practical.
I've thought about getting my turbines chromed but I'm leaning towards getting a set of ZR1s instead. My thinking is that even if I plunk down a $1,000 on new wheels and tires at least if I ever decide to sell the car I can get a good chunk of that back by selling them off. If I chrome my original wheels they may look a little better but will add zero dollars to the resale value of the car. Most chromers charge
$600+ and require a deposit of several hundred dollars which they will refund once they get your wheels in exchange, but I have heard some people have been screwed because the chromer will only refund the deposit if the wheels you're exchanging are perfect.

I saw some Chrome ZR1 sawblades on ebay last night. But they are in denmark or somewhere like that.
