i jus bought my first corvette 2 weeks ago and bought new tires battery coolant flush oil change transmission lush and exhaust she's smoking a little any suggestions also the gauges flicker do you think it may need an alternator any replies would be greatly appreciated she's a 1984 coupe
What does the smoke smell/look like? Does it smoke all the time or just on start up?
Many thread I have read....they state an new alternator fixed there problem. Have it tested. Also you might want to check the cluster grounds and remove the connections behind the cluster and clean them.
A little more info, like mileage, service records etc, could be helpful.
Does it smoke constantly or only when it's started?
If constant, then I would suspect rings. A compression check would probably confirm that.
If it only smokes when it's started, then it could be oil seals and guides.
In either case, I would run a compression check. If the compression seems good and the smoking is only on startup, then you may be able to get away with installing new seals and guides.
If worn rings then it might be time for a rebuild. Pulling the pan and checking the wear on the rod bearings wouldn't hurt either.
it has 141000 mles on it smokes all the time it light colored smells like burning oil not real thick only had it for 2 weeks don't know what the service record is only started smoking 3 days ago
All the cars I've stored (for several years) smoked for a few hundred miles or so after getting back on the road. This was in spite of running them (in storage) every week or so. Wait and see. You might change the PCV valve as it's cheap and a leaky one will cause smoke and oil loss.
And enjoy 'breaking it in' by driving it a lot.
