I'm pulling my starter out today to have it tested are here any surprises that i may encounter like exhaust being in the way? 1984 with Crossfire w/ automatic transmission
I just replaced my starter on my 92. The exhaust was in the way. I disconnected the flange so I could move the exhaust pipe enough to drop the starter. The nuts were rusted so I had to use PB Blaster. Also had to move the shield on the rear housing a little as it was in the way.
Disconnect the battery and before doing the starter, disconnect the wires from it otherwise it'll hang by the wires. I jacked the front end up enough and used jack stands along with some 2X4's to increase the height. I think I had my car raised a little under two feet but it was solid on the stands plus I left the floor jack in place.
Good luck.
I just did my 93 Auto Coupe, it was the easiest starter I ever did. Nothing in the way, nothing to move. The LT1 uses the small reduction drive starter.
