My '86 is much quieter than the '81 I used to own. Over time I eventually eliminated rattles in both cars.

The 84 was a unique Corvette, built to out handle anything coming from Detorit,Germany and Italy. The Z51 Corvette did just that. Sadly owners complained about the ride and the noises so GM softened things up a bit. As the C4s get newer they get quiter and ride better, but I would not trade less noise or a better ride for the way this 23 year old car handles.
YEP!! Me Toooooo!!!!

I have an 84 Z51.
It rides stiffer than a dump truck but handles GREAT.
It's overall rough and uncivilized but I absolutely LOVE driving it.
THe stiff suspension kind of suits the old dirt racer that's still in me left over from another lifetime about 25 years ago..
The steering is quick and positive. THere's no ABS so braking at the limit is all up to the driver.
It's a great 'drivers' car.
THe 84 DRIVES like a Corvette should.

But.....with the 84 Z51 you NEED to maintain a consistent rattle patrol operation. You have to regularly look for loose plastic, etc and tighten everything up.
If you do they won't rattle.

I have a '91 also. It doesn't rattle, very quite, much more 'civilized'.
It's very 'tight' and 'tidy'.
Not as much fun as the '84 but usually the one I pick if my wife and I are going into town to eat, etc.

If I buy another vette, I'm keeping my 84, it's too much fun.

It's a Sports Car, it should be a little noisey.
My '90 is pretty quite, I have a friend who owns an '85, he could not believe how quite my car was the first time he rode in it.

Default List your noises!

My 96 with 90 000:

-Slight squeaking from somewhere in the rear suspension when going slow over bumps
-drivers side window occasional slight rattle after a few miles on the freeway - lowering and raising window cures it
-constant very faint slight rattle from drivers side rear, heard when driving slowly next to concrete subdivider with window down - I think this is rear exhaust
-occasional 'popping' from roof over bumpy roads - tightening the bolts usually cures it
-metallic whirring/ rattling noise coming from clutch/trans after car is warmed and put in neutral. Pushing clutch in, noise stops - I noticed this after driving the car home on the first day. It's not got any worse so I'm not too worried, it's just annoying. Wonder if it's aftermarket flywheel? Clutch and trans work fine.
-kind of loud whirring noises coming from steering when on full lock at parking speeds. Steering works fine. No idea what this is!

Other than that the interior is pretty quiet - the previous owner told me every so often he would go round all the interior screws and tighten them up. He was well up on mechanicals too.

Any advice on my clutch noises?

I learned to love da squeaks & rattles, lets me know the parts are still there. When 1 is missing I know something fell off--
