I just purchased a new Leather Gear Shift Boot and was trying to install it this afternoon and ran into a little problem. How do you remove the Gear Shift **** from an automatic? I unscrewed the 3 screws from the gear shift console and pryed the button off of the **** to reveal a flat bar that was attached to the gear shift release button. What do you do from here to remove the ****? Thanks.....
On my '88 A4:
-pry out the button with a small flat blade
-use lock-ring plyers to remove the lock ring at the bottom of the shift **** interior
-lift the **** off the shifter lever (some "persuasion" may be needed on the first removal)
