I am getting ready to put my water pump back on. The FSM does not call for anything on the water pump bolts, but when I took the old ons out it was clear that the factory had used something on them. I have some permatex blue threadlocker, will this also help to prevent leaks from these bolts as when I took them off coolant came out of these holes?

just as a note, make sure to check how the thread-lock reacts to water and how it reacts to heat, just to be on the safe side, other then that that should work good
OK, just returned from auto zone. Looked at all the permatex products and saw several thread lockers (red, blue, green) than I found the thread sealeant, its white and high temp. I am going to use that, I believe that will work.

That's not thread locker on the bolts that you took out. It's sealer. The white stuff will work but it doesn't "harden up" like normal permatix. The best stuff to use would be Permatex Ultra Blue or Black. It's hi temp and is the same thing you would use on the waterpump gaskets.

That is what my initial thought was, but will the blue be enough to stop any coolant from passing by, as when I took out the bolts coolant did flow from these holes also? When I took the bolts out their was a soft rubber like compound around the bolts.
Use Pematex#2,not an RTV silicon sealer. There are several types of Pematex brand products out there.IMO for bolts that enter the water passages,a nonharding thread sealer is best, not a thread locker.

What he said. No thread locker but non hardening Permatex. The bolts go into the waterjacket.
