Default Checking block numbers

I am picking up my 96 CE this saturday and was wondering how I would go about to checking the block numbers to make sure its the orignal engine in the car? Where is this number located and is the VIN stamped on the block?

The VIN is stamped on the deck, just below the passenger side cylinder head, at the front.

Does anything have to be removed in order to see it? I dont want to waste anyones time, but does someone have a quick reference pic handy of where it is?

This is an L98 or ZZ4, but the LT's should be the same.

Bring a good flashlight, some WD40 spray and a thin long handled paint brush (to clean the grease).

Thanks for the pic. Is the whole VIN going to be there or just the last 6?

The pad should have ZXA (if an LT1) or ZXD (if an LT4) and the last 5 digits (build sequence number) of the VIN stamped on it. I don't know if you can see the pad without taking something off on the '96s. On the '89s you almost have to remove the AC compressor to get to it. By the way, if it's an automatic, it should be an LT1, if manual, it should be an LT4.
