Im just loooking for input since im tight on cash. I dorve my 1989 6 speed today It was normal I parked it 25 min later I drove it again. 5 min into my ride i had no power the car moved but it was very very sluggish and it shook a little bit it shifted fine just no power. My mechanic was on the way home so I pulled into his lot and no one was there I turned off the car and then bam it wouldn't start. It cranks but won't turnover.. Any ont got an idea what it could be.. i hope its a cheap repair..
The check engine light didn't come on. I have a feeling its the fuel pump also or some sensor again, about 2 years ago the car had a similar issue it cranked but no start, it was the hot/cold air sensor. The mechanic hasen't called me yet, witch is agood sign he wont call me before fixing it unless its expensive.
Have you noticed you oil pressure recently? I had a car (non-Vette) with oiling problems that didn't seize the engine but wore down the lobes on the cam. Power went away gradually then it finally died.
I spoke to my mechanic he was buisy today and will look at the car tommorow. The car staretd fine today I find strange. He mentioned it probably is the fuel pump and how it's pretty common in these cars
This probelm is getting even stranger. I had them do a tuneup it really really needed one. The car starts and stalls still, it will only start when they spray fuel into it. The fuel pressure is fine. Not much exhaust is coming out the back. They have to spend more time on it monday, they mentioned a ratteling sound from the tranny maybe the clutch spring?? After the tune up my mechanic drove the car like 10 miles it was fine then hour later when i went to pick it up it wouldnt start again.
You said not much exhaust. You might check the cats. Sounds like maybe one of them busted up. This could also cause a rattling sound since they're close to the tranny.

Very possible. But have you run a compression check or tested the fuel pressure at the fuel rail? The later is pretty easy and you can get a guage at you local parts store, attach it to the fuel rail, tape it to the windshield and go for a dirive. Have a buddy watch the pressure and see if it drops at the same time you lose power. This is the condensed version so I'd do a search here or in the Tech/Performance section for more details.
Make sure your cats are OK. Sounds like your catalitic converter is gone. If it is, It will block up your exhaust, making the car undriveable. The noise you hear could be the broken up cat's. Ask me how I know.
