what do you think or do you know if a c4 corvette is reliable enof to be a daily driver ?
or are they just toys ?
getting one soon and just wanted to know
Buy it and drive it. I have 88Kmi on my 95 and have not broken down once, seriously! No alternators, pumps, trans, starters, bearings, nothing! This car has surpirsed me to this day (of course tomorrow when I go to work it's not gonna start  ) I drive 100mi a day and this is the car I love to do it in. I would have traded this car in a long (long) time ago as my commuter car (due to mileage), but it seems to keep running and running so why mess with a good thing. Of course all the maintenence is done, but I don't have to say that right?!
Anyhow, this is my second Vette. My first was almost as reliable but it was a 94 and only three things went bad on it....the opti-spark ignition, the front trans seal, and the back left caliper wore the brake pads unevenly. That's is it. The car went 81Kmi before some blastard in a dodge ram pick-up decided to use my vette as a jump. I know what it feels like to be in those cars at the monster truck rallies!!!....and it's not fun! :nonod: Anyhow, I got my check from the insurance company and went to buy another vette because I really enjoyed driving it (and because I wasn't done with the first one!) I even bought the same color combo!
I am not saying this because I am some blinded corvette enthusiast (no offense intended to you all, just trying to make a point) who is willing to put up with the car just for driving a vette's sake....from my experience with it, it has a good solid drivetrain and is very reliable. That is not to say that the car is perfect, but we can't have it all. (can we?)
Good Luck!
It’s not worth owning if you can’t drive it. I’ve been driving my 92 to work at least three days a week for several years. Be ready to learn about stopping those inevitable leaks if you drive it on rainy days. But it's impressive how well they handle in the wet. But like Nat96Lt4 said, don’t even think about driving it in any amount of snow or ice. They just don’t go in the snow.
Go for it......I bought mine with 39,000 and it now has 80,000 with NO repairs........but I am the 2nd Owner.....that sometimes makes the differance on being reliable.............CALL the prev. Owner/owner's before purchase...... :yesnod:
Every day driver here. No problems other than a blown serpentine belt. I love my car!!! :D Buy the newest one you can though(less likely to have those breakdowns). Remember, it's a machine. And machines break.
Keep another car. They are not reliable nor will they go in deep snow.
I have spent 3 times as much on repairs on this 92 Corvette as I have on my 86 Caprice that I bought new. Also I have driven the Caprice 302,000 miles vrs 18,000 for the 92 Corvette.
I drive mine everyday to work and back. The way back takes twice as long, stop and go traffic, but everything has been running great. I will have been driving it for a year on oct. 31 and put 20,000 miles on it this year, just rolled over to 80,000miles. I only had to replace the clutch, which needed to be replaced anyhow.
