It is kind of a long story, but someone hit the left front of the vette and the insurance company coughed up $2,600 and I added $400 and got the whole vette painted instead of just the hood and left front.
The shop only does Corvettes and other sports cars. So they knew not to wash the engine afterwards.
The shop is in Vacaville, Ca.
Here is a URL to the photos I took during and after the paint job.
The 92-96 vettes have an optispark distributor that can get messed up if it gets wet especially with high pressure water like when washing an engine. There were problems especially with the 92-93s, there was an engineering flaw with the drain holes which allowed moisture to enter the optispark. Later models are supposed to not have the defective part but most will still not allow water anywhere near their optispark, with good reason.
Doug87L98, The entire vette was repaint and then clearcoated.
Fxgrnd38, the strips are off a 1996 GS and are tape.
Yes, it came out really great for my $400. How can you go wrong?
I am quite happy with it and the shop that did it.
The shop name is AAA Auto Body in Vacaville, Ca. Really great owner and shop. I was even asked to OK the paint color before they reshot it. It took 3 times to mix the paint correctly.
