Default Check Engine Light.....Engine missing : ( Who knows...need help

I was driving along the other day and my car did a little sputter...kinda like it lost power then came back but really fast...enough to send me forward in my seat...

I thought it was the clutch so i kept trying to roll along in 3rd and then hit it...It was fine...

Then it was fine for two days

Today however I am driving to work and the check engine light comes on...I go to the store...come out..and when i go to start it takes a few extra turns then normal...

So i get back on the road...the light keeps going on..then off...And it is running a little funny
So i turn around to take it home...and it runs fine on the way home?

WTF?

Any ideas?
If the check engine light goes out is the code still stored?

Thanks,
-jon

The code is stored. Retrieve it right away because if it was an intermittent and doesn't show up again, the computer will erase the stored code.
