I plan on storing my Vette in a carbag this winter. I plan on doing the following:
-Filling my tires to 40lbs parked on tire cradles
-Full tank of gas
-Lots of Irish spring soap/bounce sheets etc to help against mice
-Dry packs
-Use car cover
-Mouse traps
-Plug exhaust with steel wool pads
My question is should I use a gas stabilizer?
I've heard pro's and con's on the subject, such that the stabilizer could damage your injector's. I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on this.
Also, if I missed any storage tips, I'd appreciate your thoughts.
I just park on a canvas tarp............cover it with a "Noah"........fill tank........new oil change..........and drive it up and down driveway when it's "nice out"....and it reaches 190 deg..........turn on heater and air condr.........to keep everything lubed and seals from drying out...... :yesnod:
I had good luck with putting the car on jack stands, to keep the tires from developing flat spots. You cant go wrong with fuel stabilizer. I used large sponges in the exhuast ( I think it sealed better). Use the bug and rat poison in all corners of the garage. Disconnect battery. My 96CE stayed in storage for 4 years and I had no problems when bringing her back to life.
Don't store it, drive it. All you need is one good day every 2-3 weeks. Your car will like you for it, and you won't go crazy all winter looking at it.
Car batteries self discharge even if not connected to anything, so use a trickle charger, or put a timer on your battery charger and set it for the minimum daily duration (usually 15 mins). A discharged lead acid battery left sitting will sulfate the plates and its done for .
I kept my car in the driveway for bout 3 to 4 months last winter, no cover or any preparations, just parked it and left it, nothing happened. This time around I'm using the garage and disconnecting the battery, thats about it. What is the purpose of fuel stabilizer, and why would changing the oil really be necessary?
Most people seem to forget to check the fluid in the window wash tank. Make sure it wont freeze and crack the pump. Get some good quality stuff , pump out the old stuff, refill and pump it thru the lines and jets. Much cheaper than a new pump.
