All racing should be kept on the track. With that in mind, despite its 350 horses and 390 pound feet of torque, I find it hard to believe that one of these awkward looking 4,100 pound and less aerodynamic cars could seriously challenge a C4 in any performance aspect.
What is everyone's opinion on the new Charger? Could one out accellerate an 84? 85-91? 92-96? I assume at 4,100 pounds and thinner tires its handling couldn't hold a candle to a C4.
it has the power on the straight aways, it could take a c4 (dam undercover chargers), but on the curves and turns theres no competion, the c4 comes out on top
It looks like the 6.1 liter Charger would whoop a C4 in a drag race, despite its weight it will go from zero to 60 in 4.7 seconds. It looks like it would be better matched up against an 06 corvette.
The Dodge Charger is a nice-looking and relatively powerful 4-DOOR SEDAN. It is not, by any comparison, a true sports car.
If you want to compare the 6.1 Hemi motor against a C4, which C4? How about a ZR-1? That would level the playing field somewhat and this could see the Charger choking on exhaust fumes. The ZR-1's could do 0-60 times in the 4.5 range.
Even the 96 LT4 motors were capable of sub-5 second 0-60 times.
I think it looks like a lunch cooler and I would take my C4 anyday. I was just wondering how fast these things really are. The base Charger with the 5.7 liter 350 hp engine may get beat by a C4. My 96 LT1 has a power to weight ratio of .09. The base Charger has a power to weight ratio of .085. The 6.1 liter 425 hp Charger has a power to weight ratio of .104. The ZR1 is over .11. I would put my money on the ZR1 in a drag race against either Charger model. That's pretty amazing considering the newest ZR1 is now 12 years old.
Edmunds.com quotes 13.5 @ 105 in the quarter, 5.4 second zero to 60 for the Charger SRT-8. I believe the SRT-8 is the 6.1 liter version. There seems to be some variations in zero to 60 times depending on the source.

I never go by what the magazines or websites say. I go by what I see in person.
We had a Chrysler 300 at our track two years ago, I really forget what it did in the 1/4, but it was impressive for that car. They also ran an autocross with it as well. But since I was racing in teh drags, I couldn't go over to the AutoX section where the Benz's were tearing it up as well.
I ran one just last week at a test n tune...I beat him no problem...he did have a hemi and he went 13.62 to my 13.51...I had a 1.83 short time and left him at the tree as well...my 93 has a stock motor with 117,000 miles on it but I do have long tubes and gears...
There is no way a 350 HP,4100 LB. car is doing 4.5 to 60.A 400 HP 31xxLB vette will do that. There's not even a good shot that 425HP 4100LB car will do 4.5. Now,a 2xx Hp vette is a 5.something to 60 car, similar to the chargers,so it may be a close race. Don't forget, the 500 HP SHELBY STANG is 4600-4800 LBS,and it does mid 12's at the strip, close to c6's.
