Replacement Tires for my '95
I'm replacing the original (P255/45ZR17 - Front / P285/40ZR17 - Rear) on my '95 and wondered if I should stick with the original sizes or go with putting the same size all around. Also, is there a good place to purchase them?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Replacement Tires for my '95 (JHammer)
You could go bigger in the rear but I would stay with the same size on the front. Any bigger and the tires like to grab every pot hole and lip on the road.

Id keep away from Goodyears...too noisey...I got em on now...Id keep the same original sizes...GM engineers sometimes know what theyre doing...of course unless ur plannin on racing or raggin it out all the time on the track...stay stock size...I heard Firestone Firehawks(Ed Steele from Netvettes likes em and hes another one who really knows his stuff) are good, and I also heard that Kumbos (sp) are good tires...not sure what brand to get myself...but I might take Kales/Smashs
advice and get Kumbos(sp)...he seems to be up to date on lots of stuff... :D :seeya

Re: Replacement Tires for my '95 (cOvette)
There's 43K on mine. There's a few thousand miles left on the tread, but starting to develop some age cracks. Thought best just to replace them.

When I eliminated the japanese stuff, selected ride #1, handling #2 I got to the General tire as the only Z rated one! for all season tires.
I want tires with sipes on the tread. More research is necessary.
I think I want "Z" tires for looks, I just would think about it. Not that I am ever going to go that fast.

The tread width of the General 2000 Z4 is only 8.3" ! My GSC's measure 9.75" wide and thats on the part that touches the road. They are worn and it's the real width. 8.3" wide tires! I don't think so.

With the original 8.5 inch front tire, the widest tire you should run is the factory 255 size. C4's have come with 275 front tires from the factory (various years) but mounted on a 9.5 inch wide rim.
I have set of Pilots Sports and they have held up really well with past 13,500 miles of use. I'm guessing they will equal my last set of GSC's (61,000 miles).
Good luck!

Re: Replacement Tires for my '95 (My 95)
I must be hell on my back tires  The best I have ever gotten is 20,000 miles and that is with the original Goodyears, Firestone SZ50s and now BFgoodrichs. The quietest of the three have been the Firestones with the BFGoodrichs 2nd. As far as wet traction the Firestones have been better than the others I have tried.

6 sets later the price has increased but still the best deal .
It should be noted my car has a problem with tire spin most every time I take off, and the ***-end tends to slide out just a tad on hard corners, but this is a foot, brain thing, my brain says YES and my foot says how much would you like to drift ?. I truly love this car, my 1995 torch red convertible I live in central Florida.

been using nitto's frnt 245/45/17 rear 285/40/17. I like a taller tire on my convertible do to the x frame dragging on bumps and the such. they hold up ok, and at first I paid $500.00 new for a full set (4) installed !

ya that was informative, goodyear's are like 300 bucks a tire or more. I want to have fun with my ride not worry about 1200 bucks worth of tires. I can get a full set of tires for $545 and if I poke a hole in one oh well, I have had good luck with the nitto's seems I get two to one, thats two sets of back tires to one set of front. so the actual cost to replace just the back is just over $300. problem is I'm needing a full set now, and that got me looking again.. ya know
