I think I may be having a problem with my tachfilter. At engine speeds over 3000RPM the tach starts displaying random engine speeds, bouncing between 500 and 1500RPMs.
Problem is, these filters are out of production. Does anybody know where to get one of them ? Has anyone simply bypassed the filter and run ok without one?
Did yours start going wierd or did you make any changes that may have caused it. I haven't used my car prior to rebuilding the engine and installing a new distributor and ignition parts so I don't know if ever worked or if I introduced something. I'm trying to isolate this problem and the only thing between the distributor and the digi-dash is this filter (RC network). Since getting the dash serviced is around $400, I thought getting the filter first would be a good idea :D
Some people claim you can just remove it and wire the distributor directly to the tach, but I want to know if anybody really did that before I take the chance and blow out the dash.
I can tell you that the usual suppliers, Ecklers, MAD, TLD, Corvette America, etc don't carry it.
Mine started acting up when I installed a MSD blaster coil. Put the stock coil back in and it didn't go any. Tried talking to a couple differant chevy dealers and they don't know or won't say anything.
I just figure so what. I was planning to and did ad a autometer tach thats easier to read and has a shift light.
When I get some more work done to the engine I'm going to need it :smash:
