Anyone know how to change the reverse lights in a 93? They seems to remove from the inside, but my hand won't fit up from the underside because of a metal plate that's on top of the spare tire rack. Is there a trick? Also, do these go out often, or is there usually another reason they are not working? I would appreciate any input.
Jim
The backup light housings are installed with two screws for each side. They are hidden behind the license plate. Remove the plate and you can see the screws.
If you have small hands, you should even be able to reach behind the housing and remove the socket.
The lights usually don't fail so you may have a problem with the backup light switch, ground wire, or fuse. Do the rear side backup lamps come on? Do the turn signals work? The backup lamps are on the same circuit, so if the turn signals work then the fuse is OK.
I do have a 6 speed, the turn signals do work, but the back up lights do not come on. The car is very low miles, don't know if this has any significance. I will try the switch, any hints on installing it? I have ordered the manuals, but don't have them yet. Thanks again.

Not on the '96's, anyway.
Backup switch in the ZF's seem to be problematic, and a minor adjustment on the A4's switch might be all it needs.
