Default C4 hoods

Another forum member is willing to sell his '89 hood to me. I'd be putting it on my '93. I know I've asked similar questions but I'd like to get a more specific answer. Will an '89 hood fit my '93 correctly? I've been told that there are some differences throughout the C4 generation, but when looking for a new hood, the hood kit available from GM is for all C4s. Anyone want to fill me in?

Thanks,
T

this shouldnt really matter to you sence you dont have a crossfire or a 84 hood but the 84 hood is different. the underneath side of the hood has the air passageways that seal to the air cleaner lid which allows the air to move from the front of the hood to the motor. 84 is the only year with this 85 and up as far as i know are the same.

Research no more.... They (89 & 93 hoods) are the same! Go for it.

If you don't want to take my word for it. Call Toledo Pro Fiberglass (on the net) and ask them. (They make the best aftermarket copy).

Yup, I went through a similar debate a while back when I got a new hood..
All 85-96 hood's are the same.
Also, you want a used good hood..all repro/new hoods are crap.
EDIT: You're also not the only member from Reedley on here, amazingly..

Thanks for the input, guys! I can't wait to get a new hood on the baby. It's been a month now since the accident and I'm absolutely dying not being able to drive my car.

We had unusually cold weather out here in January. It actually got down into the 20s (I know, that's nothing to some of you). Anyhow, there was a few patches of ice out on the roads in the mornings and sure enough, I hit one. Lost control but managed not to damage anyone's property. Just slide the left front corner into a concrete wall and the left rear quarter panel bounced off a telephone pole. Nothing is worse than knowing it's you're own dang fault (and mother nature's). Makes it hard to sleep at night. It was mostly cosmetic damage, everything else is sound. So far I have everything I need except for the hood. We're doing all the repair work ourselves. Buying used parts and so on.

I wasn't the only one out in their vette that morning, I saw 2 others and Another vette was in an accident the same morning, in the same small town. I guess that's one for Reedley history books.

I second the motion for disagreement. And, my bodyshop manager (of 20 years) said my Toledo hood was one of the best made/fitting aftermarket parts he's ever seen. This includes parts for all types of vehicles.

There are a few of these hoods on this forum and no one has claimed a problem with a new one or even age related problems. (And, you better believe I researched this before getting one).

You got this one wrong!

Well, when I got my hood a few years back the only repro's were Vanacor and then the ones in Ecklers/Mid-America...which I ordered and it needed so much work to even be close to right..I eventually went with a good used stock hood...
But Toledo Pro's could be fine...do they make a stock replacement, or just cowl hoods? Aren't Toledo's like $$$?

The 86 to 96 hoods are the same .The 85 is totally different and will not fit your head light buckets, and sticks out on the sides on the front.
I have purchased 5 hoods over the last 4 years so ask me how I know

But, you made the statement that all aftermarket hoods were crap.... Did you base this on other experiences besides your own?

Ecklers makes their own stuff. I don't have an opinion on their quality. I do have an opinion on their arrogance. (I don't recommend).

Mid-America sells Vanacor's stuff. Vanacor's is the manufacturer between these two. Vanacor's reputation ain't that great. So, I'm not surprised your experience wasn't the best. (not recommended).

Toledo Pro has the best rep from what I see (and now personally know). There prices are the same as other aftermarket -- which is better than GM. (buy from TP or GM)

C5West is cheap but so is their stuff. Stay away!

ACI is the only other one worth mentioning. Don't have an opinion expect to say they are higher and probably aren't better than ToledoPro. (not recommended)

All other companies buy from the manufacturers listed above.
