There are three or more felt bumpers that keep the glass from rubbing the sill and (worse) the three rivets that hold the outer sill weatherstripping. I believe they can be loosened and moved out. There's also the guide that attaches to the front of the window glass that slides on a guide-rail, if this has been damaged the glass will not roll up/down smoothly. It can be difficult to remove and (in my bad experience) harder to install (have to remove it to pull the glass, putting the glass back in you're installing it blindly, be careful).
This month's CorvetteFever covered this replacement, I can't tell you if it was good because I don't like to learn from the mistakes of others.
Its the outer W/S that scratches the outside of the glass, some people call it beltline W/S I hear. The rail and guide is for the 93-96 cars only. I installed them in my 92 and didn't have any trouble at all, but I had the inner door plate out. BTW, the glass is like $260 each, and GMPD won't ship glass, so I have no idea where you can get a decent price. I bought a used lightly scratched piece to replace my bad drivers side and polished it, but it was tedious beyond description.

Interesting. I bought some from contemporarycorvette.com but they disclaimed that it wasn't in great shape (it was still better than the window I broke [see first post]). You might also try vette2vette.
