Default Corsa Exhaust Question?

I have a 93 40 Ann. Ruby with Corsa Exhaust. I was letting it warm up this morning and after a few minutes the white mist started coming from the rear. As you all know, Corsa has 4 exhaust tips but I noticed mist was only coming from the two inner pipes. The outer ones, from what I could tell because it was windy had none coming out. Are they just there for looks or do they open up at full throddle? I just figure they should be there for a reason, not just decoration. Thanks for any imput.

Yes, they flow when needed. Some are adament that they are non-functional but they're fully functional I can assure you. This is part of the Corsa's secret of being subtle when cruising and loud on demand. It also, in my belief, helps regulate back pressure on an as-needed basis as well, to help maximize torque both at part and full throttle. It's very easy to prove to yourself that the outer tips are functional. Simply hold a rag over an inner tip at idle and the exhaust will begin to exit from the outer tip. End of that silly debate before it starts again!

Ah, good to know. I didn't realize that both were functional. Thanks for the info.

I was hoping that was the case I didn't think Corsa would build such a nice exhaust then do something stupid like that... Thanks for the imput.

Corvette Kid is right... the inner tips do most of the work, but the outer ones are what he said - backpressure release.

The rest of the Corsa secret can be found in 2 stroke exhaust systems. They use this thing called an expansion tank to help extract the exhaust gases. The sonic boom inside the tank flows back and picks up the next outgoing charge from the engine, accelorating it out of the port, improving flow and scavaging.

Now, in the Corsa case, those sonic waves go back against the incoming sonic waves, effectively canceling them out.

Interesting science, really.

Default According to Corsa, they are fake....

I disagree and Corvette Kid is in error.

I called Corsa myself about the "fake tips" controversy and sure enough according to Matt or Mr. Mackovich, a sales rep at Corsa, he told me without hesitation that one tip is each muffler is completely fake or as he said "bogus".

This is my reasoning why I have yet to buy the Corsa.

I'm new to this forum and new to Corvette ownership, I did a search but couldn't find much on this topic. I didn't mean to start it up again. I am glad you guys answered my questions though. Thanks...

I have seen a cut-away, and they both flow, but one side will definately handle most of the flow.

The inside of my Corsa inner tips get dirty, (exhaust dirty) but the outside tips remain perfect. I don't think corsa would design a "dummy" tip. It has got to be functional. My guess is flow is minimal out of the outside. I would love to see a pic of a corsa cut-away.

They are an amazing muffler, they really give a best of both worlds performance. I would buy them again.

Anyone want to cut one in half and take a pic?

I believe pretty much all of their mufflers are single in/single out. The way they work it just makes sense, there is no baffling, no bending (except as necessary for some mufflers where the in and out are on the same side, like C5 mufflers). Just straight pipe with the resonance chamber wrapped around it. I don't really see how that's an issue if there's some performance concern. To have two working tips, they'd need either a Y somewhere, or two tubes wrapped with resonance chambers, which I imagine would be cost prohibitive.

Of the ones I've seen (I'm no expert but I have been to Corsa and have them on a different car) that have real dual tips, they all have some sort of Y after the resonance chamber out to the two tips. I believe in the case of the C4 systems (apparently the newer systems, this was a change they made at some point), there simply isn't enough room in the muffler casing, nor past the case, for a Y to fit along with the rather long tips.

From what I understand, there is basically a gap in the pipe near the rear edge of the casing (inside the casing though) that allows some exhaust to escape into the cavity and out the "dummy" tip. But it seems like for all intents and purposes, the exhaust flows from the inner tips, as evidenced by condensation on cold days, soot on the tip, putting your hand over them, etc.

Personally I think they make a great system. A great combo of performance and acceptable cruising. The tech they use is neat. I'd have them on my car in a heartbeat if it weren't for purely cosmetic concerns. I don't really like the bling tip look for a C4, I wish all four tips flowed on cold days, and I wish the pipes were bigger than 2.5" purely because seeing the fat stock pipes from behind the car is very pleasing.

I've spoke with the President of Corsa and not only that, we have video proof that the outer tips are indeed not fake.

Anyone who has bought a brand new system from Corsa knows they are functional because Corsa was kind enought to include a diagram and explanation of how the system works.

The way it was explained to me, the outer tips function more at idle and cruise, but at wide open throttle, the inner tips get it all.

Here's the video proof I made awhile back, of the Corsa's on my "91" Vette. I inserted a tennis ball into each inner exhaust tip which fit perfectly, watch the ribbons move from the exhaust flow from the two Outer tips. Maybe, this Corsa video could be made into a sticky since this subject comes up so, often.

Hey Kid are ya sure?

I can't believe this keeps coming up -- the fact that the outer and inner tips do not work the same way does NOT mean the outer ones have no function.
