Hi,
I've just ordered a weatherstrip kit from Ecklers. One problem is that the 3M Release agent, to assist with the removal of the old weatherstrip, cannot be sent by air (I live outside of the US).
Can someone recommend what product I can use that can be shipped by air? Will I even need the 3M Release agent?
I tried the agent you were talking about without much success. What I did was rip out the old weatherstripping then removed the screws holding the channels on, cleaned them out with an assortment of screwdrivers and mineral sprits. When I replaced the channels I applied a bead of black silicone caulk. You can even repaint the channels if need be. If you have residue from the door strips, you can use wax and grease remover to assist you
The release agent does work. I have been told that tar / grease removal spray or decal removal spray will also work, but I never tried that myslf. A small screw driver to scrap it off will work, it will just take longer.
