This is great - it reminds me of people who try to be different by getting a wierd piercing or dressing in goth, only to end up looking and acting just like all thier friends...

Yup, m, but there were "alternatives". One could become, mysteriously, "4F". Or one could even teach in what was considered a (public elementary, junior or senior high school) special service school district. Both of those'd keep you out of ... the service.

True and I remember "c.o." (conscience objector) as well.......and remember filling out the forms etc. regardless they shot me back a 1-a ....and we still had the lottery (I was #232 they called up to 236 that year).....the only luck I had is I am here to type now
