Default Dash speaker grill.... Question

How do I get them out of my dash? Already attempted prying but the dash didn't like that. I have a dash cover to put on and the speaker grills are what's holding me up.

Thanks in advance

You must pull the dash top out of the car as the fake speaker covers are bolted on from underneath. There are 2 screws that hold the dash in place at the defroster outlet and another 3 (can't remember, possibly 4) underneath the front lip of the dash top. These are all located above the instrument panel, there are none on the right side.
Loosen these and give a good yank toward you after you have lowered the steering wheel. The pad is held in place by some large metal clips by the windshield base.

That's a little bigger task then expected. I figured all I'd have to do was pop and glue...oh well, it'll be worth it.

Thanks for the steps and pics much appreciated

Be VERY carefull, these dashes are getting old and brittle, and if you crack it, it WILL ruin your day

It's already cracked That's why this task has been started. I have a plastic dash cap to cover it with, so my day won't be ruined any more

As you can see from the pic, I dyed mine to match the interior of my 87. Do not do this! It reflected on to the windshield and made quite a glare. Also I did not remember to prep it before the color change. Probably some kind of silicone spray was used on it in the past so the dye started to peel off. I just called up www.vette2vette.com and he sent me a used one for $99.

I'm currently refurbing my '88 interior and have the dash pad out...here are a couple pics that might help.

Shows the bottom of the dash pad with the grilles removed...see forward clips...

Shows the slots in the dash frame where the clips on the pad slide in and where the 3 screws go...(yes there are two more at the defroster vent also)
