I have a 1987 Corvette with a 700R4 that's motor blew not to long ago. I have a budget of about $2000. What should I do, buy a used L98 or LT1 or rebuild? Also if I buy an LT1 or 4 , or LS1, what kind of mods do I have to make in order to run perfectly on an 87? THANKS!!!!!!!
'Top end' could mean as little as the TPI runners and plenum if
you wished.
Edelbrock offers the EDL 3817 TPI high-flo Vortec intake base to mate
the L98's TPI to the L31's Vortec heads. If you trusted that an engine
from a wrecker was in good condition, then my vote is that not much
more than intake gaskets would be necessary to prepare it.
One consideration about using the Vortec heads is fitment with the
exhaust - they have a straight plug design. Opel uses headers for
his Vortec heads, I do not know how well OEM manifolds adapt.
