Anyone have problems with Nitto 555's? I bought 95 vert recently and tires still have fair amount of tread on them, no signs of aging but traction sucks. I can't even do 1/2 throttle starts. It just lights them up. I must leave ASR on or at WOT when second bangs hard it will light em up again. Don't have complete history on car, but I would say it has some sort of mod because shifts can be brutal. I can't even judge power until I can get some bite. Tires are on the list, but I want to know are Nitto's that bad. Tire pressure was at 29 cold.

I have Nitto 555's which are their street tire not to be confused with the Nitto 555r drag radial. My car was traction limited stock with these tires. I put in 3.73 gears and it had NO traction in first gear at any speed. It also shifted really hard with the new gears. I never had different street tires on my 93 so I have nothing to compare them to. I did borrow a set of Nitto 555r drag radials and those are awesome.
I had Nitto drag radials and they suck. You need to put a lot of heat in them to get sticky.
It's all in the compound, Nitto puts a harder compound so they last longer where BFG uses a softer compound for traction, but very short street life.
He knows alot more about drag racing and tires than I do plus I never tried a different drag radial to compare the 555r with. I think you have the 555 street tire rather than the drag radial though.
