Default lowering kit

What is the most drop anyone has gotten with a lowering kit. I hear people say 1/2-3/4 in. I need a full 1in. Late model verts look like 4X4's at stock ht. I know the back is no problem, I'm just interested in the front.

I"m lowering my vert and I'm going to use the kit from Corvette Central. The verts have shims above the springs that I don't think the coupes have. I'm going to leave the shims out and see what it looks like. Here is a picture to show the shims I'm talking about. Hope this helps Tim

I almost got an inch by shaving some of the material off the wedges that are provided in the lowering kit. Click on my photos if you want to see how it turned out. I was happy with the results.

People rip on imports all the on this board and I hate to say ricer but if you lower your vette in this manner it's not much off from the ways civics lower there cars. It's a great double standard.

If you just want the look then go half assed with the bolts and pulling the shims. But so many people tear on imports around here for the same reason but it's different when vettes do it. If you want performance fo with some coil overs. Since I havent posted in a while and don't seem like a spammer. http://www.dougrippie.com/drm/suspension_components.htm

I just hate the corvette contradiciton. These cars are already agressive, but if you want the performance to match at least the sports cars of 11 years beyond be ready to drop a little bit of cash. If its just the look then roll with shim/bolt drop.

What are you smoking?

There are room for smaller shims and pads without causing spring contact with anything.

And the bolts simply make the rear spring adjustable by spinning a nut.

(Hey, kinda like a coil over.)

Ricers do hack jobs by cutting coils on their springs or clamping parts of the spring together (accident waiting to happen.) We are simply changing the spring mounting location, not messing with the spring itself.

Sorry the solution isn't expensive enough to please you.

Shorter wedges and longer bolts, and cutting most of the spring pad off the end of the front spring will get you about 1".

I installed the kit on my '95 Vert, removing all shims, etc...let it settle, and it only dropped about 3/4".

Tore it down again, and removed a couple of layers out of the sandwiched pads under the tips of the springs, gluing on a patch of truck innertube when done to prevent any metal-on-metal contact.

The car dropped an additional 1/4" - 3/8" with no apparent adverse affects in the 2 years or so since.

The point wasn't about it being expensive. I'm not some price tag corvette tax type of person. Screw it, I'm out again. I shouldn't have even posted. Sorry.

[QUOTE=n1kki6;1559207610If its just the look then roll with shim/bolt drop.[/QUOTE]

Lowered Cg reduces weight xfer during cornering, so this isn't just an appearance mod.

For me, the incremental cost for coilovers just isn't worth the incremental benefit.

YMMV

If you have a point, I'm all for it.

We could also rehash some old sh** about coilovers vs. composite leaf, like here:

and here:

Although you were specifically saying using longer bolts and shorter wedges was a half-assed method.

Well yea I suppose you "could" go out and buy a flatter spring...but why...

Sometimes the simple method also is the most elegant method...

Default Lowering

Longer bolts in the rear and I removed the shims and shaved the spring pads. My 87 vette is sitting nice.
