I'm in need of new rear shocks on my 96. I'm hoping to start up some light autocrossing/occasional road coarse race but I still drive the car alot around town with my fiancee. Would the bilsteins be good enough to pull both duties or would it be better to roll the QA-1's on their softest setting and tight'em up when I hit the track?
If you decide on the QA1's, I'd be inclined to get all 4. I just put a set on my purely street driven (at least for now) lowered LT4 and they feel great. Of the 12 settings, I have the fronts on 6 & the rears on 4 (per a tech @ Naaske - "for spirited street driving") which seems perfect imo.
To me, the problem w/ just replacing the rears is your not getting the full benefit of running all 4. I had the Bilsteins up front (as well as on the rear) and these are a night & day difference over them - did not have Z51 Bilsteins though. IMO, if you are just going to replace the rears, I'd probably match the shocks up & do Bilsteins BUT if you can afford to replace all 4, you can't go wrong w/ the QA1's...they feel incredible.
FWIW...I paid $570 shipped from Jegs for all 4...not cheap, but worth every penny imo.
