I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but didn't see it on a search. The driver's door on my car had dropped a little, so the previous owner was banging it shut. The door panel had come loose it was banged so much.
I washed the car yesterday, noticed that water gets in the drivers door window. I also noticed if I shut the door with the window in the 1/2 way position, it sounds like I'm tearing it up.
So, I think the glass needs tightened somehow. How would I do this?
The following is what VetteUSA published. It's really good stuff... I haven't did it yet, but I need to. Let me know if everything work great or if somethings missing... I just want to make sure I don't have the same problems... The below part #'s are for my 93, the final link will show you your parts for your earlier year..
I purchased the parts at a local chevy dealership.
The GM Part #'s for the Window guides were:
Part #10243037: Price: $12.01, &
Part #10243038: Price: $12.01
I bought 2 of those L-Brackets (same part # for driver/psngr side):
Part #10263155: Price: $8.63 each.
Total Price for the parts w/tax: $44.58
You can also purchase these items from Chris May @ Superior Chevrolet in Merriam, Kansas. Just tell him you're on Corvette Forum. You may not save much money on these small items, But on multiple or large items he can save you a lot of money. forum members get a discount at Superior Chevrolet.

Thank you. Oh, and everyone but me knows how to remove the door panel!
I'm going to tackle removing and fixing various issues with my door panels in my 92 C4 - ANY advice would be greatly appreciated, I so fear doing this having done it once on my '85 and it was a nightmare.
Special tools, etc I should have? Tranquilizers, bourbon???
THANKS

Panel is easy to get off, the only thing you need to remember is the screw under the window switch. And to pry off the door lock lever.

The driver's door on my '88 sounded like it had a metal tool box half full of wrenches in it when I shut it with the window half way down.
I replaced the regulator with the genuine GM part and new guides and it works and sounds like new.
I couldn't believe the size of the the window glass when I removed it. It was almost twice the size of what you see when it's up all the way. Needed 90 degree needle noze pliers to get the attaching nut off where the glass is attached to the regulator arms.
One of the best 2 day projects ever, as you notice the difference every time you close the door.

That describes my '87 exactly. I can see the guides, but why the regulator? Have you found any write ups on how to do this? I'd guess my 87 and your 88 are very similar in what needs to be done.

The regulator was very loose from wear. I followed the removal and installation in the GM Corvette shop manual and it was pretty uneventful, just time consuming.
The most intensive part was undoing and reattaching the door lock actuator rods from the latch and key tumbler when you remove the metal plate from the door opening. The rods should remain attached to the metal plate.

Question to the group. Should I just go ahead and order the guides now? What additional parts would be good for an '87? How about a door quiet package?
Pre 93 cars don't have the glass guides, although I was able to install them on my 92 using existing holes in the doors and glass. I don't know how far back that is true.

xccter mentions guides for his 88. I don't imagine an 87 and 88 would be all that much different inside the door.
No, I was talking about adding the glass guide so the window doesn't flop around when its open. I don't know about the sound deadening in the doors, I just added it and I'm not back on the road yet to see if it makes a worthwhile difference.
