Default Steer Wheel

Anyone know the procedure to take the steering wheel off for 1985 corvette ? I know there was a thread not to long ago that someone stated to turn the horn cover "I think" counter clock wise but I couldn't find it in search. Before I start I like to make sure. Thx..

Make sure you go get a wheel puller first. You can get them at Car quest (where I got mine) and I think you can get them at any major parts store. Just make sure it has metric screws because that's what goes into the wheel.

I did my 86 yesterday and put an after market wheel and hub in. If you squeeze the top and bottom of the horn button at the same time you can pull the horn right off. Then you disconnect the wire. Unscrew the 3 screws and take out the telescopping wheel lever. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and take the plate out that you just removed the screws through. Then get a socket and take out the center nut. Once it's off use a wheel puller to pop the steering wheel off.

That should be it assuming it's the same for your year as is was for mine. Any questions halla back and I'll get back to ya.

Thanks for the help teufelhund. I'm glad I waited. After pulling the horn cover off I could of done some damage if I didn't wait. Well, it is in and done. Here is a pic of the new wheel. Its a Momo wheel. Thx again..

Not a problem. Mine is a cheap wheel but it's on a MOMO hub so it's basically the same. And they look identical except for the straight you have on the bottom. I love how the car feels now. Since the wheel is smaller it takes a little getting used to. You're very welcome and good luck with you next mod.

If it wasn't for this forum I would have thrown a lot of money away already. Glad I could repay the favor.

U just enscrewed the bolt, until it was about to come off. Wacked it with a hammer, and off it all came.
