Default Handbrake question

Can anyone tell me if the handbrake lever ever changed in the C4 or are they all the same from '84 to '96?

If the handbrake changed are the mounting points in the same location or did it move a little?

Thanks,

Well, the C4 parts microfiche breaks down the parking brake info into 1984-87, 1988 and 1989-96. I can crosscheck parts numbers between the three for differences if there's one in particular that might answer your question. Let me know...

OK, well I checked on the parts number for the actual parking brake lever and the microfiche shows different part numbers for the 84-87 (14105127) and 88-96 (12529393). Hope this helps...

Wow thanks for the help! I thought I remembered hearing that they changed in the late 80s. Wonder if the mounting position is different for the carpeted door sills?

That I don't know. I've got a 96. It's a bit dark now but if no one comes along with a definitive answer before then, I'd be happy to take a pic or a measurement tomorrow...

I believe it was the innards that changed - some recalls up until '88 as those earlier ones were falling apart.

The '88 and up style uses a smaller diameter bolt for the front mount. The '84-'87 has welded nuts inside the frame while the '88-'96 has pressed in nuts from inside the frame. This would definitely make it difficult to swap handbrake assemblies between the years or styles. Also the '88-'96 has a self adjuster for the calipers.
