Hi everyone..I have a 1990 Corvette and was wondering if anyone has purchased a stage 2 chip and if they are satisfied with it and where should I go to buy one ...Thanks
Hey Moreforsure save your money bud. I spent close to 300 bucks on a custom burned chip for my 90 and the only thing it did was turn my elec. fans on early and not worth the money. When you start changing things like the Cam and Cylinder Heads and good Exhaust then get a custom burned chip. Pipe
Contact Alvin at pcmforless.com They have an online order form, where you specify the various parameters of performance that you want. Price is $180 range.
They can also disable the VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System) in the ECM, which means that you won't be stuck with a 'Vette that won't start. More info about that is at vatsSucks.com
Alvin has vast experience with our C4 Corvettes. He made a chip for my 1990 'Vette. And I'm very happy with the results. And... once you buy their 'chip' - Alvin and crew will do an 'upgrade' to the chip for $50. Like, if you change cam/headers/heads/bore/stroke... whatever.
I look at it as an investement for the future.
AND - the stuff that Alvin and pcmforless.com makes are NOT garbage. They are fine-tuned chips, based on your car, what you want to achieve, and how you drive your car.
Just my 2-cents. And you'll find similar comments all over this forum if you search for them.
I agree with Badjerjim on Alvin @ pcmforless, he's done my chip and i have the lifetime chip mods that come via email and burn my own chips, but unless you have mods to your system, ITS A WASTE OF MONEY...
you can get a VATS module setup for $50, install a fan switch $10, do a tune up and still be under the cost of a chip...I'm all for Alvin's chips, but can't see someone spending the money for really nothing.
