Default Power window question

I have an 85. The windows are very slow and sometimes need help on their return trip up. Should I get the replacement 84-85 motors, or can I upgrade to the 86-96 motors. Do the upgraded versions require any modification to install?

Is replacement easier if I get the regulators included. Or is it possible to repair them with either a clean and lube or new ribbons. I've heard of people adding new ribbons and not seeing a change.

Just want to know what I'm getting into. EVERYTHING is readily available on eBay. Is this a good source?

I went through this a few months ago.

Pleople are not responding b.c this is a common thing, Do a search

I got my new upgraded regulators from vette2vette.com

90$ each shipped i belive

You want the regs from the newer 90-96 vettes.

Yours uses an old ribbon, the new one is a metal scissor style, that wont break again like the plastic ribbon, rolls up smother, and a lots faster.

Over all its a great upgrade, and you wont have to keep fixing it.

Its not the easiest thing to put in, but there are a bunch of type ups on it.

Basicly if you can get the old one out, this new one goes right in place with the addition of 1 small hole you have to drill for mounting.

The scissor design came in late 86-96...It does require one extra hole in the bottom of the door and it's a very worthwhile conversion. They are so much better than the ribbon(tapeworm) type...

They come as a unit. the hardest part will be adjusting the window when you are done. You need two people. one to put the window while rolled up and loose in the brackets exactly where the old one was. you can look at the marks in the weatherstip to determine where. While someone inside the car tightens at least two of the mount bolts and the rear window stop.
