i am starting to experience a delay in one of the headlights opening in my 88 vette--the guy whom does all my work said it is a sensor/switch going bad $350 appr. and 150 in labor-
i told him 2 hold off since i dont drive it at night and it still does work for now
this guy has always been honest i dont no how to handle this other than he just didnt know..thinking i should order gears and call another guy in town and say i know what the problem is and just need someone to replace them--
i dont want to screw it up unless its that simple--anyone have suggestions as well as part numbers for the 88 corvette..and a how to for dummies..lol on installing them
I think it's your bushings. Mine did the same thing until I replaced them. Both units work fine now.
You can order them online from Eckler's or Mid America Motorworks (MAM). Read the TechTips on this Forum and this article in Corvette Fever while you wait for your parts to arrive.
gives options of small gears or large gears? The part number for ’88-’96 bushings is 37701; for ’84-’87, replacement gears are PN 26670 (small gear) and A3526 (large gear).????
if he was originally saying it was the motor is there one motor per light? he quoted 350 plus 150 in labor--i hate to lose the guy hes always been so honest what approach would you use in dealing with him--he was actually recommended on this site.

You have an 88, so there are no large and small gears. Just one main gear and three Delrin bushings per unit.
I think your mech friend is basing his estimate on the cost of replacing the motor with a new one plus his labor cost.
I'm not saying his price is not fair, but in reality, you can do this job yourself for less than $10 for the bushings.
I personally would not let someone bend me over for $500 over a $10 part, but that's me. Your pockets might be deeper than mine.
