Hey guys, Just picked up a 1996 Corvette with a low 22k miles its an
LT1 with automatic, coupe 300 hp. with the G92 3.07 axle. I paid 20k.. Its all stock and a real beauty. My buddy has a 2004 Cadillac CTSV with 16k miles and its a 6 -speed and 400 hp. Hes on of those guys who likes to call me and brag about how fast his car is, and hes so quick at shifting.. etc.. etc.. a real wind bag..
Heres the question: Hes challenged me to a drag race at the local drag track. The Corvette is 600 lbs lighter than his Caddy, plus I dont thiink hes that great at shifting.. So in a race , who do you think would win?
And why??? P.S. Both cars are 100 percent stock.
vette should hook up better off the line, the CTSV, which my buddy has one too, has a lot of wheel hop from what I understand. Therefore, if your buddy is not that great a shifter and doesn't know how to come off the line then I'll take you in your vette........assuming you know how to get off the line on the green.
let us know how it comes out.
I also think the win will go to the better driver. Get a good launch and you should be able to get him. Thats the Z06 engine I believe. Does he have any mods on it? I seen one of those flying around the road course once with about four people in it.
Unfortunately I agree... I have an 01 STS with extended warranty and I needed it, but still love the car though.
If I had to chose between my 01 STS and my 94 ZR1, the CORVETTE HANDS DOWN!
Good Luck
It was an educated guess, I just un-loaded a 00 Lincoln LS V8 and 1000 miles after the extended warranty was up, it needed $2000.00 in repairs.
Luxury American cars can be very pricey to keep running.
Our E320 has been flawless for 62,000 miles but I still bought the extended warranty, hedging my bets.........
Yea this guy is such a big mouth about how great his car is, Im really not that crazy about racing, but I was wondering if it comes down to that how my 96' would do against that CTSV. I know it has 400lb. but it is a heavy car. He thinks the 6-speed would also be an advantage but Ive heard that the auto trans in the Corvette is a good one..
So from what you guys are saying the Corvette has a very good chance of beating the Caddy.. If the race does happen I will give you guys the results.
That 400 hp will show itself after the 1/8th mile.
I raced a C6 at the track, he was all stock, I have the mods in my sig(click my username to see my profile). We both ran the same number, but I left him in the dust at the starting line, but right around halfway, he was really cooking.
Tell'em you'll race for the pink slip. See what he says then. He'll be like another loud mouth at the poker table until he's busted only to go quietly to the ATM. There all the same. You've got to reraise that (pink slip) bet.

Man, they don't have "pinks" anymore. Not even here.
Still funny though.........
Give yourself a little edge:
-install a K&N filter and cut the air filter lid, 10chp
-install cut back stock AC Delco spark plugs, 8chp
-leave home the spare & jack, 40-50lbs weight reduction
-arrive with 1/4-1/3 tank of fuel, 60-70lbs weight reduction
These will get you closer to his power/weight ratio.
Which of you weighs more?
Assuming he weighs 200lbs his launch weight will likely be 4,050lbs for a power/weight of 0.99; whereas you should be able to launch at 3450lbs and those changes will bring you to ~320chp for a power/weight of 0.93.
In case you do not drag race:
-drop rear inflation to around 31-32psi
-do a little dry burn out around the water
-pre stage and wait for him to pre stage
-bring the tach up to 1,200rpm
-inch into the staging beam till you just light the stage bulbs
-leave on the 3rd yellow; launch in 3rd gear
If your A4 shifts early you might want to launch in 2nd gear and manually upshift into 3rd at 5,800-6,000 RPM.

I can see why.
CTS-V is a very different animal than the Sevile Touring Sedan.
I sorta' like the CTS-V.
By the way, when I was at the Bondurant School, they were using the CTS (not V) as instructor cars. I rode with our instructor and a decent driver can really hustle those Caddys around the race track!
No, I don't believe the CTS-V uses the LS6 engine. It's a Northstar, as I recall.
