My 1985 has a security light with a mind of its own. It will come on solid while driving, so I end up getting stuck somewhere waiting 15-30 minutes until the security light starts flashing..... I dont want to repair it, I want to eliminate the possibility of being stranded. I can jump the starter defeat? relay behind the DIC, but did 1985s also have a signal from the tdcm to the ecm? if so how do i bypass that?

You can remove the center dash plastic and pull the 10A fuse behind the guage switch panel. But you'll lose your horn also.
Or you can unplug the theft module, it's under the passengerside dash behind the ECM.
Or you can cut the light blue wire coming off of the starter interrupt relay, also in there.
The interrupt relay though, will not let you start the car at all unless you disarm it or unhook the battery. It doesn't just turn off if you wait awhile.
While we are on the subject of alarm systems my 84s system does not work, but the security light flashes when the door is open and key is left in the ignition.Does that mean the system works and maybe just disconected. I checked the system by doing the door lock method as advised in the owners manual and I get nothing when I open the door. No horn blowing and car will start right up. Is location on 84 same as 85?

That means it's working. Now when you lock it and shut the door, the light should stay on solid. Then wait about 30 seconds and the light will go out, the system is now armed. Now reach in and unlock the door from the inside, it should trip the alarm when you open it. Silence it by turning the key in the drivers side lock.
