I have had an LT4 stock exhaust system sitting in my shop since last summer. Well I finally got around to installing it to my 86. Everything went very eazy and it fits great. Even though I had everything from the exhaust manifolds back, I decided to connect it just behind the 86 precats. I wanted to use the LT4 cats but fittment was going to be a big problem.
I haven't had a chance to drive it yet. It snowed last night after being 80 degrees earlier in the week.

I've stated here many times that this was an inexpensive and easy way to get a real performance boost for the early cars. And if you ever want to add headers and bullet cats that'd also be an easy installation from this point and no Y-pipe needed. You wouldn't get much benefit from an X-pipe because the LT4 system already has a crossover but if you ever want a little more sound, simply replace the resonator with straight pipes. Those using the LT1 system could install an X-pipe in it's place. These stock systems have a really nice sound minus the resonator w/o being excessivly loud. I'll look forward to your impressions when that nasty snow melts!
BTW, Athens is a cool little town. I spent three summers there in the late 60s when my mother was going to graduate school at O.U. One summer we lived not far from where they made the King Midget. I'll bet not many here know what the hell that is!

Well the roads are dry but it is still pretty cold out. I had to take the 86 out before Church and try the new exhaust system. Man what a difference. From a dead stop and just hitting the gas, the *** end will jump completely sideways and do it again when it hits second. It is an auto. I know it's cold out and tires and asphault are not hot but regardless, it never ran like this before.

Yep, that rear cat is a dog. Good thing you dumped it. (The front cats aren't exactly cheetahs either)!
I put new y-pipe ( without precats), new Magnaflow cat, new Magnaflow catback system. The difference in performance was outstanding. Could not beleave the difference.
Yes the LT4 exhaust system will fit the L98 cars but not without a little modification. You also need to have all of the hangers for the new system. None of the old hangers will work.
