Just bought a 96 coupe and added it to my regular policy. A friend told me about a company called "Sneed, Robinson & Gerber" who insure corvettes from 1953-2001 with UNLIMITED mileage as long as its not your primary daily driver. I got a quote from them and it's almost half the price of my regular policy. Is anybody familiar with this company? Any comments, good or bad would be appreciated.
Thanks
THERE ARE OTHER ONE'S OUT THERE .
GREAT AMERICAN
GRUNDY
MOST ALL OF THEM ADVERTISE IN THE CORVETTE MAGAZINES . YOU JUST HAVE TO SPEND TIME ON THE PHONE .
CHECK WITH YOUR AGENT , MABEY THEY HAVE A COMPANY THAT DEALS IN COLLECTOR CARS . MOST OF THE TIME THERE ARE SOME LIMITATIONS , BUT MABEY THEY MIGHT NOT BOTHER YOU .
I'd be interested in finding a company that recognizes the car is not driven all the time. I'm with Farmers and pay $1,500 per year. I had a battle with my agent trying to convince him the car is not driven over 5,500 miles per year. That $1,500 is with a multi-car discount, no violations at all, no accidents, no claims and I'm 34 (with any company, ever). You think one of these companies you mentioned could shoot me a better price?
I wouldn't get the multi-car or line discount, though. I don't suppose that really amounts to much in the total scope. Not more than 10%, I wouldn't think. I always though State Farm was high. Maybe not. Hmmm.
Their phone # is 800-619-7827. I've seen their ads in hemmings. You don't need multi-car with them, but they do want proof that you have another car insured as your daily driver. Nationwide is charging me $1300 a year with perfect driving record and all the discounts. Sneed/robinson...just quoted me $690/year.
I would like to hear from anybody who might use them.
Check out Western National Mutual Insurance Company.
I formally had Farmers Insurace for my auto coverage and changed to Western National when I had two teenage drivers in the house. They cut my rates nearly in half. Don't know what effect living in the metro will have but it might be worth a try.
I currently pay about $850/yr full coverage on the 96LT1 with $500 deduct. Multi auto disc and 21 year old male still on the policy.
I’m 40 years old, married, no tickets, in Californoa. I have my 95 ZR-1 insured through Grundy Worldwide for only $615.00 a year, insured for a value of $55,000 (Not Low Blue Book Value, But Actual Insured Value) with zero deductible, unlimited miles, part time use and that’s a hell of a deal when you consider AAA insuring it for $1300,00 a year only low Blue Book value and $1000,00 deductible, with only 3000 miles use a year
I just called Grundy and they quoted me $663/ yr for both vettes. I'm paying Allstate $1000 for just one. Anyone know how good or bad Grundy is when it comes to claims and customer service?
I just had a Grundy rate calculated.... something doesn't seem right. It was $328 (around there). Is this an annual rate? They sure don't ask many questions - not even age of driver or driving record. I also didn't know what to put in for a value. Does $25K sound right for a '96 LT-1 Roadster with 37,000 miles?
They told me you had to apply and then the underwriter has to approve. I heard Gundy requires the insured vehicle to be garaged. They are sending me an application so I'll fill it out and see what they say. The prices sound too cheap. I've learned you usually get what you pay for but we'll see.
I know this is a little different. But I have an " agreed value" policy with Hagerty( http://www.hagerty.com) and I only pay $125 a year. My car is valued at $17,000, and it is ZERO deductable, unlimited mileage. I have had two claims and they were paid within 5 working days. I am in the market for a C4 Vert, and I was told if I find a low mileage, or some special model, they would insure it also. There are specialty companies out there who are reputable, who will insure our Corvettes.
BTW, Art that's one beautiful machine... I hope to have a 95 ZR-1 of that color someday... :)

Thanks for the compliments, if you’re wanting a 95 ZR-1like this color you should buy the next that comes available you see because there were only 13 made in this color in 95.
I heard Gundy requires the insured vehicle to be garaged.
That is correct about having your vehicle garaged. They also require you to have an everyday driver. They’re insuring you’re Corvette as a part time pleasure car, not as a primary everyday driver car. You must have a primary car in order to get this type of specialty insurance. This type of insurance covers secondary cars only.
I've learned you usually get what you pay for but we'll see.
That is also correct normally, but not this time. This is Specialty Insurance you’re dealing this time and it’s totally different thing than standard insurance. Check around, most specialty insurance is cheaper than your standard insurance because your car is for part time use and gets less exposure also less of a risk than a regular daily driver. As I said this type of insurance is a Specialty Collectors Insurance, which they assume that you will more careful with your car, and not use it on a full time basis and also take good care of it. It does pay for the full-insured value of what you want to insure you car for which a standard policy won’t. With a standard policy you put your car on its roof and they’ll only pay you the low Blue Book value. I have check deep into this kind of policy since I’m insuring a ZR-1, I wanted to make sure I’m getting the full value of this car and not some low Blue Book value!
From what I was reading on the Grundy site, there must be a garage available for it - but if it's parked in he driveway and something happened, it would be covered.
I do have another car (actually two others) - but I tend to drive the 'vette more often. I'm just concerned that they would not cover an accident if I was driving it to work some day. Are they that particular?
On the application it clarifies that the car must not be use as a work car or to run errands only to shows, rallies, drives, special events, part time use only. If you do use the car to work at times then maybe this type of policy might not work for you. The reason their price is so good is because if your car is only used on part time basis to these events, then it’s less of risk of things happening to it. This type of policy works good for me because my ZR-1 is a garage queen, which so far this year I only put 714 miles on it. It was only driven to a few shows this year. This calculates to pretty a dollar a mile, oh well what can I say.
