Default Does This Sound Fishy?

To start things off, I called a dealer this morning who has a C4 for sale. The salesman I talked with said it was parked outside on the lot. I said o.k, I may be by today. I was contemplating whether or not to go, since it was about an hour away, but I said what the hay! I made my way a few hours since I called him.

When i get to the dealer, I don't see a Corvette anywhere. I'm getting kind of worried, after travelling an hour. I proceed into the sales office and a sales guy came right up to me. I asked about the Corvette, and he said it's not here. It's at the tranny shop getting some work done. The guy I talked with on the phone came out and apologized to me. He said he had no idea because noone told him! I asked him where the shop was, so I could maybe take a peak at it, just to see if I'm interested. He said the shop was closing and he said the Corvette would be back by Tuesday.

Well, I left pretty angry, more annoyed than anything. So, since the tranny shop was about a 5 minute drive from the dealer, I decided to go for a drive to see if he really was closing and to see if the vette was still there. When I get there, the owner, is just about to close the shop doors. Good timing!! Asked him if he had a Vette in for service. He looked at me with a confused look and said he had no vette anywhere. He said he does all of the work for the dealer, but had no Vette in the shop. I said thanks for your time, and left back home.

What is your take on this? I'm a little confused here. Are they jerking me around or what? I mean, I'm a serious buyer ready to buy, but they just lost my business! I think I'm going to buy private to help out the little guy. Thanks guy's!

Run away and don't come back just trying to jerk you around. I would think that a private seller would cost more but will be more honest with you.

talk to the dealer again and see if you can persuade them to take a load off the price because of all the lying and crappy service.

Since most have email, ask him to send you some photos of the car, taken that day. If he is serious, he will do it, if not RUN....

I have been jerked around every which way from these car sales Aholes I dont care what the F they say. I dont even call them. they all lie.

I wasted like 2 months searching out every car for my GF. I wanted to fight 99% of them. on the phone they gave a price. show up to just get it, price changed. I drove 3 hours in traffic.... thinking of it now, I should burn that place down this afternoon.

had a car all F-ed up with some crap repair. I said wait a minute, you said it is fine... it is repaired. he said no it is not. over spray on exhaust, spare tire, tail lights, crappy filler job, I can go on and on. I ended up arguing with him about it.

ok enough venting.

Bottom line, they say anything to get you in there, then they try to shove a POS down your throat, or one minute your looking for a vette, and they say have you seen this honda. IDIOTS!

I have been to lots where the car is gone. fishy, well seems like the norm.

I only buy my cars from private parties. Preferably from enthusiasts who have taken good care of the car.

the person who is willing to remain patient and calm until all the facts are in front of you will always have the best oppurtunity.i try to leave my emotions at home when dealing with salesmen of any kind.any error or misrepresentation on their part will come up in negotiations if it reaches that far.
check with the sales manager of the car lot.see if he will be accountable for his staff.the car may be worth it/maybe not.until you see it you will never know.

Yeah, that's a good point. It does look like a really nice car from the pictures I've seen. He said it will be back on Tuesday and told me he'd give me a call. I'll see, I guess. Here are some pic's!!

Wow! Nice eye. I've probably seen that photo a few times and never noticed. Is that something major? The dealer said it was in the shop for tranny work.

Happens all the time. I am not sure it should be a turn off however. If the car sounds like something you would be interested in, take a look.

Thanks so much for the help guy's! It's a 95 with 153,000km's, so that's roughly about 93,000miles I think. The dealer is asking $15,999, which is way to much. I am in Ontario, Canada though. I've got a 99 Mustang GT at the moment, I'm trying to sell. I offered to trade in my GT. They said that's fine and were going to call me on Tuesday. I'm not going to get my hopes up high, after all it is a dealer! It's been sitting on their lot for three months, so I'll use that in the negotiations, if it gets that far.

Do not waste anymore of your time with a Dealership. I never forget what a car salesman at the dealership told me when he was putting presure on me to buy a car years ago. He says, " The car business is a today business ". Meaning your here and we have one shot at you to sell you a car. That is what he told me. At the time I was looking at a Cadilac Seville around 20K. I just was not interested in making a $20K decision in 20 minutes of talking with him or looking at the car. I did not buy it.

Put some time into finding a Vette that has been cared for by an owner who appreciated the car. If you can find the original owner and then get to know him you can get a really nice Vette. I did that. It took me 6 months and I found the 90 Red Vette I own. It was worth every day it took me to find her. Good luck with your search.

I'd go back with a fire truck and stick a 1 1/2 line up his nose (or other orifice) and open the pump and valve wide open.

Probably a salesman had taken it for the weekend.
It looks like it could be a good deal but you already know you can't trust what they say.
