Default Need help with 96 antenna

A friend needs help installing a new antenna in his 96. The new antenna plug is marked A, B and C, with the wire colors gray, green and white. There was no plug on the car harness and the wire colors are orange, green and black. Now that we've blown a couple of fuses we thought we would check with CF 96 owners. Could anyone with a 96 tell us what color wires go into the A, B and C slots on the plug in the car's harness. Thanks, Eric

Is this an AC/Delco or Harada antenna?

I called my buddy and he does not remember what brand it is. He will check the car tomorrow and find out. Do the different brands hook up differently? What we are really looking for now is the colors of the wires from the car harness as they go into the harness antenna plug slots.

Seems to be a Harada antenna. I think the same antenna was used from 93 through 96. Can anyone give us the harness wire colors as they go into the plug.

I don't know the colors, but as for 3 wires I'd have to say one is a ground, one is hot all the time (that's how it moves after you shut car off!), and the other is switched through the radio. All you need is a test light to figure out the 2 hot wires(one has power all the time, the other switched with the radio), the third should be a ground.

I agree completely and that's how we've blown the fuses. We have one hot, one that gets hot with the radio switch and a ground. We can operate the antenna from the battery but can't get the combination right when working with the car's harness. The constant hot does not seem to shut down when the radio is turned on. We found the old harness plug and it is marked A B and C for the three wires. They have been cut so we can't find what colors go to the letters. The antenna plug is also marked A B and C. We just hope that will give us the right combination.

Default Missing Relay

The wires from the antenna go into the black connector:
A-grey
B-green
C-white

The car's harness is a grey connector
A-orange (12v+ bat)
B-pink (12v+ radio deadline)
C-black (ground)

The factory antenna will not work without the relay. The relay switches the polarity and circuits to raise and lower the mast. If the harness connector has been cut off someone probably had an aftermarket automatic antenna in there.

EDIT: Just read back and saw you stated a green wire. My deadline is pink. Your green wire should be hot when the key and radio is on.

That's the info we needed. You are right about what happened. Someone had butchered the harness when adding an after market antenna. Thanks for the help. Eric

Quick q....does the antennae retract all the way down to fender height, or does it protrude upwards approx 1/2" ?
